Project: Stepping Hill Hospital
Sector: Healthcare
Client: Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust
Truline were appointed by Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust to create a new external garden space at Stepping Hill Hospital. The works included the development of a therapeutic outdoor area accessible from the first floor Arden Ward, along with alterations to the existing garden serving Norbury Ward.
The project was delivered within a live hospital environment and required strict safety measures throughout the works. All fixtures and fittings installed within the garden spaces were anti-ligature and securely fixed to ensure patient safety, while access points and gates were carefully managed by site staff at all times.
The works included the following:
- External lighting, CCTV and staff attack guardian receivers
- Fixed table tennis table and chess tables with seating
- Fixed outdoor fitness equipment
- Resin footpaths and paving
- Benches and planters
- Trees and shrub planting
- Maglock security fencing
- Tarmac works
- Yoga area
- Bollards
- Turf installation
The completed garden now provides patients with a safe and accessible outdoor space that supports outdoor therapy, wellbeing and recovery.
“It’s been great to work with our patients, clinicians and colleagues at Truline on such an important development. Patients can now benefit from a range of outdoor therapy, which is so important for their recovery.
We’ve often had to be quite innovative in our approach to ensure patients’ safety. But it’s all come together perfectly, and the positive feedback makes all the hard work worthwhile.”
