Surface Design Show London 2023 – Commercial Interior Design Trends
Truline’s commercial interior design team recently made the trip from Manchester down to London for the Surface design show to check out all the latest in surface trends and new product development. We thought we’d share some of our finds with you.
Sustainable materials come in a variety of eco solutions, whether it’s made from recycled product, a natural/renewable material, low carbon or carbon zero production methods and complete cradle to grave eco products. Layering on top of this the impact of materials for people through chemicals and more recently the consideration of materials affect on our well being and mental wellness. This is also affecting the dyes being used, using pigments found in nature, which then gives things a more natural/earthy tone and so creating the look and feel of designs. While this is a positive for people and the planet, it still has a slightly raised price tag. But as more and more solutions and sciences are invested in, this is starting to level out, as seen in the production of paints which are good for you by absorbing CO2, purifying the air. We enter into an age where we should expect materials to not only be neutral for the planet but beneficial for a local environment.
Large format tiles and designs
Popular in hospitality, and gradually moving into more setting, large scale tiles with images and large-scale bespoke murals are appearing in more finishes, outside of just wallpaper, making them more versatile for different uses and business across all sectors.
Metal finishes for everything
While the use of metal in accessories and functional items such as lighting, taps, and furniture has been on the rise for many years, we’re now seeing a rise in variety of metal sheet panelling, metal in glass work, metal effects on surface, and texture metals of all variety across different wall finishes for a selection of settings. With a different creative metal finish to suit different styles. From clean modernism; brushed golds and silver effect. Metal grills and chain metals are often used for fluid partitions, then there’s also the dark, mottled tarnished metals, and similar created illusions on tiles, wallpapers and cladding. Also, these are no longer expected to exist solo, creating a careful collaboration of colours and textures adds depth and luxury to a space.
