London Design Festival : Commercial Interior Design Trends 2022
As an Interior Designer in the Commercial Design & Fit out Industry, I’m always looking for ideas and inspiration. Where better than a trip to London Design Festival, where industry leaders and manufacturers from around the globe showcased their products.
Below are some 2022 / 2023 interior design spotted durring the visit:
Purposeful Curves
The trend of overstuffed furniture and simple curves is becoming a big feature in 2022. After years of straight lines being the cutting edge, we saw a shift to scalloped edges and arch shapes, while these are still present this more developed bubble effect in taking hold in furniture and architecture alike.

Ribbed and Slatted
Fluting, ribbing and slats have been on the rise for a few years. This effect is present in glass, soft furnishings, wall finishes, upholstery, and on hard surface furniture. This effect can be married with many trends, finishes and colour palettes for a contemporary look.

Mobile Office
This is more of a behavioural trend driven by the changes to work environment, as the world still adjusts to post covid life, the workplace is becoming more flexible and dynamic both in people and furnishings. Either by being moveable, multi-functional, or adjustable etc this allows for one space to be utilised for many activities. This is being driven by co-workers wanting to maintain their flexible working conditions to support a work-life balance.

Retro Juxaposition
Pairing wood or natural finishes with bright, dark, or muted toned colours to create simple textural differences, along with depth of design. This can give a fairly retro look as with the use of burnt oranges, mustards and browns but can also give a 90s vibe when pairing white or black with colour pops rather than wood. This is a transition from using dark tones, greys, blacks, maroons and navys with wood for the contemporary look we have grown used to incorporate settings in recent years, while this look hasn’t gone, these are additional pairings within a trend or theme.
