Wigan Youth Zone Commercial Fit Out by Truline
Truline involved in further refurbishment investment in Wigan’s Town Centre gem
I had the pleasure of being shown around Wigan Youth Zone today by the lovely Lynsey Heyes, the Head of Fundraising.
Set up in 2013, the Youth Zone was created by ex Blackburn Rovers player Dave Whelan along with cousins and local businessmen Martin Ainscough and Bill Ainscough.
The scheme was OnSide’s first Youth Zone to be largely-funded by private sector money and occupies a striking new purpose-built accommodation at Mesnes Field in Wigan town centre.
More than just simply getting young people off the streets, Wigan Youth Zone is a facility where children and young adults can be supported to achieve their dreams and develop real and achievable aspirations for their future.
During my visit Lynsey showed me some of the exceptional facilities that are already on site, including
- Skate Park
- Football Pitches
- Art Room
- Dance Studio
- Music Room
- Recording Studio
- Boxing Ring
- Gym
As the Youth Zone only charges a token 50p to its users it relies heavily on charity donations and local funding. It is impressive the support that has been shown by the local community and offerings further afield. The gym equipment was donated by the GB team after the London Olympics. We were left imagining all the inspirational stars that might have used those treadmills in 2012!
Truline Construction & Interior Services are carrying out some commercial interior refurbishment works at Wigan Youth Zone including a new canteen and breakout space and a quiet zone for children and young people who use the facility to retreat to.
